Keynote speaker Minnesota Senator Mark Dayton greets CVT's executive director, Doug Johnson.

Ahmed Tharwat, producer and host of the public television show Belahdan, tells the crowd about his own experiences as a survivor of torture. The evening's master of ceremonies, Mary Lahammer, of Twin Cities Public Television, looks on.

Nohn Rebecca Kidau, a deputy minister for Liberia, talks about her country's struggle to rebuild after more than a decade of war.

In his keynote address, Senator Dayton emphasizes that torture is never acceptable.

At the close of the evening, guests gather to plant a tree, along with personal messages of hope and healing.
