Join CVT on June 26

CVT is planning on a special celebration on June 26, with a short play, music and refreshments to mark UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. Join us for this important event to honor and support survivors of torture in our communities and around the world. Details here.

Support Healing for Survivors

The Torture Victims Relief Act provides urgently needed funds for torture treatment centers in the United States and abroad. But funding has remained static for many years and is woefully inadequate to meet the needs of torture survivors. The House will soon discuss funding for TVRA in the Emergency Supplemental bill for fiscal year 2008. Urge your Representative to support full funding for healing services for survivors. Learn more about the legislation here.

Senate Committee Approves Red Cross Access, Interrogation Limits

The Senate Intelligence Committee voted to mandate Red Cross access to prisoners, prohibiting the holding of “ghost detainees,” and to hold the CIA to humane interrogation standards. Read Douglas A. Johnson’s statement on the committee vote.

Fund CVT Each Time You Call

Each time you make a purchase with your Working Assets credit card or a phone call using CREDO long distance or mobile service, CVT will receive a small donation. It's that simple. Not a Working Assets or CREDO member? Sign up with Working Assets so you can participate in this special election. Look for the CREDO Mobile or CREDO Long Distance links.
