The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a nonprofit, nonsectarian, voluntary agency assisting refugees worldwide who are fleeing racial, religious and ethnic persecution, as well as those uprooted by war and violence. The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) within the Department of Health and Human Services helps refugees obtain economic and social self sufficiency. Their Web site offers access to ORR-funded programs that provide technical assistance to other ORR-funded service providers. CVT is the designated organization to provide technical assistance to torture treatment centers.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provides protection and assistance to the world's refugees. When first created by the United Nations General Assembly in 1951, UNHCR was charged primarily with resettling 1.2 million European refugees left homeless in the aftermath of World War II. Today, 22.7 million people in over 140 countries fall under UNHCR's concern.
