CVT Responds to Gina Haspel's Letter to Senator Mark Warner

Tuesday, May 15, 2018

WASHINGTON — The Center for Victims of Torture™ (CVT) today released the following statement in response to Gina Haspel’s letter to Senator Mark Warner, Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, regarding her nomination to CIA director.

“Ms. Haspel’s claim that she wouldn't undertake activities that are contrary to her moral and ethical values is cold comfort given her persistent refusal to say that the CIA torture program was either immoral or unethical, and her ongoing concealment of any information damaging to her nomination. Any Senator who relies on Ms. Haspel's empty assurance to support her will be voting to reward torture.” — Scott Roehm, CVT director of the Washington office
