Andrea Carcamo-Cavazos | Center for Victims of Torture

Andrea Carcamo-Cavazos

Senior Policy Counsel

Andrea works with our policy team at our Washington, DC office. She leads the work on asylum advocacy and participates on refugee advocacy at national levels. Prior to joining CVT, she was a Staff Attorney at HIAS—one of the nine refugee resettlement agencies in the country—where she represented asylum seekers, unaccompanied minors and other vulnerable populations. Her previous policy experience includes her work as Assistant Director for Public Policy at the National Latin@ Network, and also as a Dean’s fellow at the National Immigrant Women’s Advocacy Project (NIWAP) while she was in law school, where she currently serves as a board member. Her several years providing direct representation to vulnerable migrants, combined with constant communication with our clinicians serving survivors of torture, inform her policy work on a daily basis.

Andrea holds a J.D. from the Washington College of Law, where she participated in the Immigrant Justice Clinic and was published in the ABA Family Law Journal through her work at NIWAP.
