C. Scott Cooper

Past Chair

C. Scott Cooper is the CEO of RE-AMP, a network of over 170 nonprofits and foundations working together on climate change and energy policy in the Midwest.  He is the Chair of the CVT Board and has previously served as a member of the CVT Board’s Public Policy Committee and as Chair of the Board Governance Committee.  He has participated in Board visits to CVT's programs in Kenya, Uganda and Jordan several times over the past few years.

Cooper has over two decades of experience in philanthropic and nonprofit leadership, public affairs advocacy, and political and community organizing.  Most recently, he served for five years in a senior leadership role at the St. Paul-based Bush Foundation.  He previously served on the staff of two US Senators from Minnesota (Sen. Paul Wellstone and Sen. Amy Klobuchar), and also as the outreach director for President Obama’s campaigns in Minnesota. 

In 2006, Cooper co-founded TakeAction Minnesota, a statewide organization of individual and organizational members working in coalition to advance social, racial, and economic justice.  He has also served as adjunct faculty at both the Hubert. H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota-Duluth’s Masters in Advocacy and Political Leadership program, teaching classes in negotiation and leadership.

Cooper has a BA from Macalester College and a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.  In addition to being a 2007 Bush Leadership Fellow, he also completed a University of Minnesota Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs Policy Fellowship in 2005-2006.  In addition to his service with CVT, Cooper serves on the board of GiveMN.org and executive committee of the North Star (Minnesota) Chapter of the Sierra Club.
