Ruth Barrett

Director of Global Operations

Ms. Barrett has dedicated her career to managing nonprofits with missions focusing on human rights and social justice. In 1998, Ms. Barrett joined CVT as the director of Volunteer Services and was promoted to deputy director in 1999. As Director of Global Operations, she is responsible for overall operations at CVT and directly supervises Risk Management, Client Services, International Services, Research/Program Evaluation, National Capacity Building, the New Tactics in Human Rights Project, IT, Facilities, and Human Resources.

In addition to her work at CVT, Ms. Barrett served as Chair of the Program Committee on Amnesty International USA’s Board of Directors from 1999 to 2004.  She also had worked for Amnesty International USA from 1987 through 1994, first as Midwest Regional Director and later as Refugee Director. Prior to her work at CVT, she served as Director of Volunteer Services and then Curator of Chicago’s Peace Museum, a not for profit museum dedicated to peace education through the visual, literary and performing arts.

Ms. Barrett holds a Bachelors of Social Work from Manchester College where she also majored in Spanish.
