Senior Policy Counsel


Yasmine Taeb serves as CVT’s Senior Policy Counsel and leads the organization’s advocacy on refugees and asylum seekers. Previously, Yasmine served as Legislative Director for Human Rights & Civil Liberties at the Friends Committee on National Legislation where she lobbied for increased resettlement of refugees, more transparency and oversight of the U.S. lethal drones program, the closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility, and the repeal of the 2001 AUMF, among other issues.

Yasmine has substantial policy and advocacy experience and has served as the Government Relations Manager for the Arab American Institute as well as a Legislative Fellow for Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA), where she advised the member on Middle East and N. Africa, civil and human rights, defense, and homeland security issues. She’s a former State Department Graduate Pickering Fellow, where she worked in the Near Eastern Affairs and International Organization Affairs Bureaus.

Yasmine's writings and commentaries have appeared in The Hill, Newsweek, The Washington Post, New York Times, Miami Herald, The Huffington Post, and ThinkProgress. Yasmine is the recipient of the 2017 We are EMILY Award from EMILY's List, a 2017 University of Florida Outstanding Young Alumni, 2016 Young Women of Achievement Awardee for Service/Nonprofit Advocacy, and the recipient of the 2016 Diversity Award for Leadership in the Legal Profession from Penn State Law.

She holds a J.D. from the Penn State Dickinson School of Law, a Graduate Certificate in International Human Rights Law from Oxford University, and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Florida.
