Madge Thomas is the head of corporate social responsibility and president of the American Express Foundation. At American Express (AMEX) she works to execute the vision for the global corporate social responsibility (CSR) including AMEX’s environmental, social and governance strategy (ESG). In this role she leads the philanthropic giving, partnerships and programs. Previous to American Express, Thomas led the innovative finance, corporate and philanthropic partnerships at UNICEF’s Education Cannot Wait Fund. Prior to the UN, Thomas was vice president of global policy & advocacy at Global Citizen. Thomas’ efforts mobilized top celebrities, world leaders and millions of consumers to help secure $10B+ and high-level policy commitments on financial inclusion, education, equality, climate action and waste reduction. She previously spent eight years in Australia as a lawyer and diplomat, specializing in human rights, Indigenous issues, regulatory matters and social justice.
