Diversity and Inclusion

Last updated: October 19, 2023

At the Center for Victims of Torture, our goal is to ensure that CVT is an inclusive, diverse, equitable and supportive workplace where everyone feels valued and respected. Among our values is a firm commitment to respect the dignity of all people, regardless of our individual differences. We believe that the diversity of our employees enhances our ability to achieve our organizational goals. Since 2017, CVT’s strategic plans have called for and supported implementation of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) processes and policies, along with actions to enhance our practices and make ongoing improvements. This contributes to a sense of staff well-being and fosters a culture of respect and fair treatment.

To support our DEI objectives, CVT has established various working groups and supportive groups. These include the Global DEI Council, the Jordan DEI Committee and the U.S. DEI Committee. In addition, U.S. staff have established informal groups including a Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) Group, and an Anti-Racism Study and Action Group. Also, over several years CVT has established action learning project teams to assess and revise policies related to DEI in the workplace.

Through our ongoing efforts to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion, we strive to live our shared values and create a workplace that reflects the better world we are trying to build.
