Learning to use local public transportation systems helps clients increase their independence and ease challenges in getting to work, school, shopping, CVT appointments and other necessary events. CVT transportation tutors help clients learn the transportation systems, provide addresses for key locations, including CVT clinics, libraries and other commonly accessed places, and demonstrate methods for planning routes.

Activities

  • Meet with client to share overall information about public transportation in the area.
  • Find out the locations the client needs to access and gather addresses.
  • Show the client how to use the bus/train schedule tools to plan their needed routes.
  • Show client how to purchase passes and download mobile apps to keep updated on routes and schedules.
  • If applicable, show client how to use QR codes to access bus or train schedules or other updates at transit stops or other locations when on the road.
  • Show client how to check routes, read schedules, recognize bus or train stops, request stops and other steps needed to use the systems.
  • Some transportation tutors do ride-along sessions to show the client how to use the transit system.
