CVT signed a coalition letter with ACLU, Center for Democracy & Techology and others, which was covered in this article in Government Executive magazine by David Dimolfetta. The letter urged Senate and House intelligence committees leaders to keep Senate confirmation for CIA and Office of the Director of National Intelligence top lawyers as safeguards against overreaches, especially with past actions like the CIA post-9/11 torture program. The authors write, “The general counsels of the CIA and ODNI wield extraordinary influence, and they do so entirely in secret, shaping policies on surveillance, detention, interrogation and other highly consequential national security matters.”
