Public Citizen, the firm representing CVT and fellow plaintiffs in our suit against the government on the foreign aid cuts, issued this statement on a preliminary injunction granted Wednesday night, Sept. 3, by a federal district court in DC. The order directs the government to spend the foreign aid funds that were appropriated by Congress. The Trump administration attempted to use a “pocket rescission” to withhold the funds, but that was rejected. Lauren Bateman, CVT’s attorney on the case, said in the statement, “‘Pocket rescissions’ are illegal, and the Court’s rejection of the President’s attempt to unilaterally impound billions of dollars of foreign assistance funds is a critical victory for the rule of law.”
