ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Center for Victims of Torture™ (CVT) today issued this statement as the trial for one of the men who murdered George Floyd concludes.

“Today, former police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murdering George Floyd.

“This verdict is an important step in the right direction, but the fact remains that a Black man is dead because a police officer tortured him to death. And far too many people of color have died at the hands of law enforcement without accountability for those killings.  

“Now is not the time to relax our efforts—it is a moment to redouble the work necessary to combat and dismantle the systemic racism that permeates this country’s law enforcement and criminal justice systems.” — Curt Goering, CVT executive director
