ST. PAUL, Minn. — It is with sadness that the Center for Victims of Torture™ (CVT) responds to word of the death of Nancy Feldman, long-time former board member and esteemed leader for the organization.

Nancy Feldman served on CVT’s board of directors for 19 years total, which included two multi-year terms. She first joined in 1997 when the organization was beginning a stage of expansion overseas to bring healing to survivors in a range of locations, a phase that continued well over the next decade. Serving in the role of board chair twice, her vision and leadership were instrumental as CVT worked through the strategic, financial and logistical details of this period of growth.

Ms. Feldman’s extensive experience in health care was enormously valuable to CVT. She brought in-depth understanding and direction to the organization, having served for 20 years as president and CEO of the nonprofit health insurance company UCare, which specialized in ensuring that low-income families and seniors had access to plans. She also had lengthy experience in Minnesota state government roles, including with the Minnesota Department of Health and Department of Human Services, and her wide knowledge helped CVT navigate the intricacies of mental health care provision for survivors living in the state.

“Nancy Feldman’s legacy at CVT is apparent every day in our work extending care to survivors who live in Minnesota but also in locations around the world,” said Sonya Funna Evelyn, CVT president and CEO. “Ms. Feldman was dedicated to the principle that all people must have access to health care. As we mourn her loss, we also honor her commitment and tireless work to ensure that everyone has consistent and effective care.”
