At Every Border, #FamiliesBelongTogether

For CVT clients, survival knows no borders. Minors fleeing forced military service in Eritrea cross the border into Ethiopia unaccompanied and find us in the camps. One of our 10-year-old clients crossed the Syrian-Jordanian border after enduring abduction, imprisonment and her father's murder. These children fled for their lives. They didn't want to leave their families behind.

And yet for children who recently fled to the U.S. border with the security of a parent, separation was mandated. We heard about the anguish that resulted, and we understood. When survivors flee to the U.S. with children, those children are almost always affected by the suffering of a parent, or they are direct survivors themselves. Furthermore, separating children from their families is in direct violation of the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child.

Forced separation, wherever it occurs, only compounds existing trauma. CVT continues to champion sensible, humane options for addressing the plight of the world’s most vulnerable. And you can help.
